Noah Harrison is currently a Morehouse College junior, business marketing major from Philadephia and he taught himself how to produce and engineer. Noah started engineering before making beats and that’s how he first got his feet in the door in the music industry.

Although college students around the country had their spring semesters cut short at the start of the pandemic and were upset that they had to go back home, Noah used this time in the house to his advantage. He utilized the time he had back home to get back to learning how to make music.

During quarantine in 2020, Noah and his older brother Sam “U3L” would be in the studio and Noah would engineer his songs. Noah first took a jab at making beats in 2019 but took a break because he didn’t have time to hone in on the skill of making music.

Shortly started making beats and learned how to use a production software called FL Studio. Sam helped his younger brother become better at making beats because Noah would try to make beats for him to rap to. Some songs did not make the cut, but instead of being discouraged, he took it as motivation to continue to get better at his craft.

“It was pretty hard to learn beats,” Noah said. I mean it’s pretty technical, so it’s a lot of things you gotta learn and do. What kept me going was basically my love for music. I like to do it and whatever I really like to do, I’m going to stick with it.”

Since then, Noah and U3L have made five songs together, and their latest single called Chrome Heart Carhartt dropped last month.

Having a brother that makes music as well helped Noah tremendously as he first started out and still to this day as he makes music. The bond and closeness he shares with his brother is something that is rare in the industry.

“I’m grateful to working with my brother because it’s rare as a producer to have that deep of a connection with an artist,” Noah said. “We both want to see each other win”

Noah sees himself making music for some of the hottest artists in the game. In addition, his long term goal is to manage other producers that were once in his shoes and to create different lanes for them in the industry.

The biggest influence in the industry for Noah has been Pharrell. Specifically because Pharrell was able to create his own sound while stepping into every genre of music. Pharrell is known for being a master of music theory and plays the guitar, keyboard, and guitar.

In the future, Noah plans on using voice to make samples from scratch for beats instead of only finding songs to sample on the internet.

Noah currently makes beats in his dorm room and being at Morehouse has allowed him to network and make music with other producers and artists that also go to Morehouse.

Miles Johnson is a junior communications major and sports journalism minor at Morehouse College.
